Sequim is a small city of 6,600 residents in the northeastern corner of the Olympic Peninsula. It is located in Clallam County, Washington, on the Sequim Bay in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. This area of northwestern Washington overlooks Vancouver Island, British Columbia, across the strait. In this remote part of the state, the city has only one real neighbor, the community of Carlsborg. Homes for sale in Sequim are newer than average, and typically offer waterfront views and larger lot sizes.
Sequim is also located in the Dungeness River Valley and, naturally, is known for its Dungeness crab. Thanks to its position in the “rain shadow” of Washington, the area receives more sun and less rain than the rest of the state, making it the perfect place to grow lavender. It is considered the “Lavender Capital of North America” and holds an annual Lavender Festival. Its other traditional celebration, the Sequim Irrigation Festival, is the state’s longest continuously running festivity.
