Whidbey Island is the largest island in the state. It is a part of Island County, along with Camano Island to the east, and sits in the Puget Sound just off the coast of Everett and Mukilteo in northwestern Washington. Cities include Oak Harbor (the county's largest), Coupeville, Greenbank, Langley, and Clinton; about half of all island inhabitants reside in a rural area outside city limits. The island has only one bridge, known as Deception Pass, which goes to Fidalgo Island and the city of Anacortes to the north. The only other way to get on or off Whidbey is by ferry or small plane. 

Whidbey Island is a well known vacation spot, glorified for its vast array of outdoor recreational activities from whale watching to kayaking, hiking, and scuba diving, but it is also well known as the home of Naval Air Station Whidbey Island. The station is one of the largest Naval aviation bases in the Pacific Northwest.
