Moving Guide for Auburn, WA: Best of Both Worlds

Located about 20 miles from Joint Base Lewis McChord, Auburn, WA is a thriving town near the Green River that offers outdoor natural surroundings alongside the conveniences of a modern-day city. It has a variety of parks and playgrounds as well as walking trails and gaming fun. If you’re looking to locate to the Auburn area, here are just a few of the great opportunities available.

 

Game Farm Park is a 160-acre site that offers soccer fields, picnic areas, and walking and running paths along the White River. The park also has four tennis courts, two basketball and pickleball courts and several play areas for the kids. The site is adjacent to the Game Farm Wilderness area which offers campsites for overnight travelers.

 

 

Les Gove Park  is a smaller park in a forested area that offers a water park for the kids and picnic areas along with a rental facility that can be used for birthday parties or receptions. The park also offers a senior center that has regularly scheduled activities throughout the week. The park is located at 910 9th Street S.E. in the heart of the downtown area.

 

If fishing is more your interest, check out the Flaming Geyser State Park along the banks of the Green River. The park offers 503 acres of open area perfect for flying kites or remote-controlled airplanes. The river runs through the middle of the park with a large graveled bank for those outdoor enthusiasts.

 

 

 

For a night of fun, stop by the Muckleshoot Casino which offers a variety of gaming including slot machines, nightly entertainment, and a dozen different restaurants for all types of tastes. There is even a non-smoking building for those wishing to gamble smoke free. The Galaxy Lounge offers free entertainment including celebrity impersonators and bands playing everything from jazz to ‘80’s type music. Just up the road from the Muckleshoot Casino is the White River Amphitheatre which is an outdoor concert venue offering traditional covered reserved seating as well as uncovered grass seating for those looking for an economical but fun night out. Concessions and merchandise stands are also on-site. Free shuttle buses bring guests to the venue from the Red Robin parking lot on 15th Street.

 

 The Soos Creek Botanical Garden offers visitors a chance to wander through 15 separate areas of the gardens including a cedar grove, a prairie meadow, and a woodland. A pond rounds out the vast garden area, and plant enthusiasts can purchase some of the local offerings at the front entrance shop before heading home.

 

For history buffs, the Neely Mansion sits at the “Gateway to the Green River Valley”. The home was originally built in 1894 by a local pioneer who ran the home and surrounding 284 acres as a dairy. The house restored in the 1970’s and now can be rented for receptions or parties. The first floor is filled with antiques and tours are available on Saturdays in the summer months.

 

The Supermall sits right outside of Auburn and offers a collection of outlet stores as well as an old-fashioned carousel that still operates for a small fee. Restaurants surround the mall including Johnny Rocket’s, Red Robin and IHOP. A full Regal theater complex sits directly across from the mall.

 

If you’re looking for great specialty restaurants, check out Longhorn Barbeque which offers mouth-watering ribs and brisket or for an Asian/Sushi menu, try the Hibachi Buffet which offers a variety of Asian cuisine in a buffet-style setting.
